Check your fit
Who is eligible to be a B Corp?
For-profit, operating at least twelve months, and a short list of industries with extra requirements. Two minutes to rule yourself in or out.
B Lab’s legal requirement lookup
Choose your state and entity type and B Lab tells you exactly what your company needs to do. Start this early. It has the longest runway of anything in certification. North Carolina has no benefit corporation statute, so companies here build the stakeholder language into their B Corp Agreement rather than adopting a new corporate form, which makes this step more straightforward here than in many states.
Certification fees
B Lab’s current fee schedule, scaled to revenue. A company under $5 million in revenue pays $2,100 a year, and part of that covers the independent audit. Check the page rather than trusting a figure quoted anywhere else, including here.

This is the part that has to come from people nearby.
- Talk to someone who has been through it. Members here have already been through certification and several have offered to take calls. We will help you work out where to start, or whether now is the right time.
- Up to $500 toward certification. WNC companies with fewer than 10 employees that certified or recertified in the last 90 days can apply for reimbursement covering B Lab fees, a consultant, or coursework.
- Not ready to start? Changemaker membership is open to companies that have not certified. Come to a few events and meet people who have.
