Privacy policy

This site collects very little, and what it does collect is listed here.

B Local Asheville & WNC is a volunteer-run B Local, part of the B Corp community. We run this site at blocalavlwnc.com. If you want anything on this page explained, or want your details removed, email blocalavlwnc@gmail.com.

What we collect, and when

We only collect what you type into a form, plus the ordinary records any web server keeps.

When you send us a message. Your name, email address, company if you give one, what your message is about, and the message itself.
When you apply to join. Your company’s name, website, town, size and logo, the membership level you picked, where you are with certification, and a contact name, email and phone number.
When you apply for the grant. Everything on that form, including the receipts you upload and the ownership question the grant criteria require. Those files are stored with the application.
When you register for an event. Your name, email address, organization and how many people are coming.
When you sign up for the newsletter. Your email address, and nothing else.
Whenever anyone visits. Our host keeps standard server logs: the pages requested, the time, the browser, and the IP address they came from. Our forms also record the IP address a submission came from.

What we do not do

No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel and no other measurement tool on this site.
No advertising or tracking cookies. Nothing here follows you to another site.
No selling or renting. We do not sell your details, rent them, or pass them to anyone for their own marketing.
No comments. The site has no comment forms and does not accept comments.

Who else sees it

Four companies handle data on our behalf. Each has its own privacy policy.

WP Engine hosts this website, so everything stored here sits on their servers and their logs record visits. Their privacy policy.
Google carries our email. Form submissions are emailed to us, so a copy of anything you send arrives in a Gmail inbox. Their privacy policy.
Mailchimp sends our newsletter and holds the list of subscriber email addresses. Their privacy policy.
Stripe processes donations. Payments happen on Stripe’s own pages, so card details are never typed into this site and we never see them. Their privacy policy.

Beyond those, we share what you send us only within our volunteer board, and only with whoever needs it to answer you. We would also hand something over if the law required it.

What is published on the site

Two things on this site are public on purpose, and both are about organizations and roles rather than private life.

The member directory. Company name, logo, town, website and certification year. Business information, published because being findable is part of what membership is for. Ask us and we will change or remove a listing.
The board. Names, roles, photographs and the companies board members work for, on the About page, published with their agreement.

Cookies

There is no cookie banner on this site because there is nothing to consent to. WordPress sets cookies for people who log in to edit the site, which is only our own volunteers. Our forms may set a short-lived cookie so a part-finished application is still there if you come back to the tab. Neither is used to track you and neither is shared.

How long we keep it

Form submissions stay in the website’s database, and in our email, until somebody deletes them. Grant applications and their receipts are kept as our record of how the fund was spent. Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe, which every email we send has a link for. If you would rather we did not keep something, ask.

Asking us for your data, or to delete it

Email blocalavlwnc@gmail.com and ask. We will tell you what we hold, send you a copy, correct it, or delete it. We are volunteers, so give us about a week.

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we start using something that collects more than what is described here, we will change this page and change the date on it.
